Information
Gui Valley is originally named 歸谷, and is the place where the famous polymath Gui Gu Zi lived. Gui Gu Zi and his two historical disciples Pang Juan and Sun Bin, as long as the fictional disciple Master Shusang were main characters in Dance of Maple Leaves. The Gui Valley of DoM is the place where Gui Gu Zi held his lessons, and not his place of birth. It is also located within Mount Taishi, while the accepted location for the historial Gui Gu Zi's court is much more to the south, on Mt. Tongbai.
Gui Gu Zi was said to have educated Pang Juan and Sun Bin, who were the brightest military strategists during the Early Warring States. He was also the teacher of Su Qin and Zhang Yi and started the Horizontal and Vertical School of Thought (also known as the "School of Diplomacy"). Su Qin held the Vertical View, which all the other Warring States should ally against Qin (a vertical alliance on the map). Su Qin eventually was able to form the alliance temporarily and became chancellor of all six States. Zhang Yi, on the other hand, favored the Horizontal View, which each state should ally with Qin (a horizontal alliance on the map) and use Qin's power to get what they want from the other states. Zhang Yi eventually became Chancellor of Qin and manipulated all six states into submitting and tributing to Qin with just his diplomatic skills. Gui Gu Zi himself was said to be immortal, living for hundreds and hundreds of years before finally ascending and leaving the mortals behind.
